Volume 4 Issue 8

• The last newsletter (Volume 4 Issue 7) generated more response than any in recent memory, which tells me, I guess, that movie reviews are what people want to comment on. I just enjoyed watching Coach Carter with Samuel L. Jackson but can’t honestly report that it’s in the same league with those films I recommended in the last issue. You’ll find additional recommendations for your viewing in the “comments” section of the last issue (click in the archives section on the right of the “newsletter” screen and then go to the bottom of the page), and I’ll be more sensitive to the popularity of these “celluloid epiphanies” in the future.

• I find myself disagreeing with columnist Charles Krauthammer as often as not, but his recent essay, Let’s Have No More Monkey Trials, is genuinely deserving of careful reading and contemplation. It is the current entry on the “sermons” page for your easy access. I’m going to give Growing in Christ a “pat on the back” for having anticipated several years ago that religion (the popular label for that which is rooted in theology) is having an increasingly influential role in everything from politics to polemics. The invitation still stands for the GiC readership to become actively involved in the ongoing discussion.

• The “guestbook” proved to be unnecessary and is being eliminated from the home page. Other changes are being made in an attempt to make GiC more attractive and useful. If you would like to receive an e-mail copy of current newsletters without having to go each time to the website you are invited to “subscribe” (fear not, there is no cost or obligation associated with subscribing, and unsubscribing is pitifully simple). Your input is always welcome as GiC strives to fulfill its mission of revealing and demonstrating theology’s practical application to our day to day lives. Please take a moment to make your thoughts and opinions known.

• Until next time…Shalom!
